Square's Solaris, Arial Paradise...
In Xengoears, Solaris and it's rulers is the root of most of the world's troubles. It is a secret city in the sky, shrouded by dimensional gates and secrecy, and through a mysterious military organization known as Gebler, Solaris attempts to dominate Ignas and take advantage of its archeological findings. |
The city itself could appear to be nightmarish, though more in a psycological sense than appearence -- Solaris is a technological wonder that displays the kind of knowledge mankind might gather after ten thousand years, and they take full advantage of it. The people believe they are Chosen, and thanks to the help of the Soylent System, they follow this creed blindly, ignoring the experiemtns and such done on the surface dwellers, or Lambs as they are called. Generally, Solaris's citizens are blind to everything. As a general rule, scientists are the power behind Solaris, led of course, by Krelian, and to a lesser extent the Gazel Ministry and Emperor Cain. (Come on - we all know who's really in charge!)

Solaris: Cogito, ergo Lem
This science fiction movie -- also dated at 1971 -- is more philosophical than other movies in the genre. It is Russian in origin, and if you're lucky enough to find it, be prepared, because it's slow going! But if you have patience, it's worthwhile. Go here for more information and a review. (I'm not going to go into as much detail here as I did for Soylent Green - wouldn't want to spoil it. ^_~) |
The story takes place on a space station orbiting a distant planet, run mainly by scientists and researchers. The inhabitants of that station are experiencing extremely life-like, but alien hallucinations. Due to these problems the government is considering shutting the project down, but luckily for the inhabitants, they are given one last chance in the form of the movie's main character, Chris. The station's problem? The hallucinations experienced by these people are real - a true physical embodiment of their subconscious dreams. Overall, the movie is rather ethereal and alien. The only connections between it and the Solaris of Xenogears would be the setting (basically an orbital space station/city) and the fact that scientists hold the main power. But if you're up for an interesting movie...... ^_~
