At the very beginning of the game, you get your first clue to Fei's problems when he destroys the town of Lahan. He doesn't remember anything about the incident, and this sort of thing reapeats throughout the game, until a certain point on the second disc. As it turns out, Fei is what Ramsus calls "The Demon of Elru", or as we know him, "Ido". As a child, Fei lived quite normally. But sometime when he was about seven or eight (I'm guessing), his mother 'changed', and began treating him differently. She took him to Solaris and Krelian to be experimented upon, seeking to unlock his hidden power. The pain was obviously too much for him to bear, because he finally managed to get away from it all by creating another persona to endure the pain while he withdrew to a safe place within his mind. This persona experienced only the 'bad things', and therefore harbored feelings of hate and a desire to destroy. Fei had ultimate control over his other persona, forcing him onstage whenever he encountered something he didn't like. When Grahf came seeking Fei's power, and his mother stood by and watched his father be beaten, "Ido" emerged -- and the blast of power ended up killing his mother. (From what I gathered, the attack was aimed at himself, or it was going to backfire, and she shielded him.) After this he somehow ended up in Solaris's hands -- perhaps he went with Grahf after that... -- and he was their weapon at Elru, during the rebellion. Here, his father confronted "Ido" and Grahf, sealed Ido within Fei's mind, and created a new "Fei" over his original self, and Ido. Then he was taken to Lahan, and given into the care of Chief Lee. All of this is learned from Shitan's confessions and flashbacks just after escape from Solaris, and from Fei's merging on the second disc. If you have anything to add, send it in.
