It is not certain whether Sigurd is truly an Elurian but I am sure that he lived in the Aveh desert as a child. Sigurd was actually Bart's half-brother but this was not revealed until the fight to regain Aveh from Shakhan was over. His blue eye was a deadly giveaway being the exact same shade as Bart and Margie's. The reason for Bart's father not marrying Sigurd's mother was probably because of the tradition that Aveh must be ruled jointly by the Fatima line and the Nisan Mother but it was believed that the two were truly in love. Sigurd revealed a little about his mother during the talk with Bart at the Bledavik palace. Sigurd first came to the capital as a child to serve his royal father as a page. Perhaps it was during this period that he found out about his legacy. No details were given on how he got kidnapped into Solaris though.
He was used as a test subject for the drugs that the Soylent System produced. His potential was discovered by Jessiah in the labs and Sigurd was sent into Jugend for training after being brainwashed. According to official resources, Sigurd was a star student but he also earned himself a reputation for being a "bad boy" at Jugend. Since it was known that he cannot hold his liquor, it is possible that Sigurd got his reputation as a "bad boy" for being something of a ladies man (this is pure speculation on my part). Most gameplayers may not know this but Sigurd wears a navel ring as a symbol reminding him of vengence against the Solarian soldiers that ill-treated him. He was in Special Services as a Fire Element but what were his specifc duties were questionable. His ability to pilot the Yggdrasil was probably gained at Jugend. He was a supporter of Ramsus' ideals until he broke through the brainwashing and remember the past and his ties to the Fatima dynasty. He told Ramsus that he was leaving and Ramsus took it hard like a betrayal. Sigurd probably lost his eye rescuing Bart.
Apparently, "Sigurd I" was the king of Norway from 1103-1130 AD, and he was the first Scandinavian king to enter the Crusades. (Hence the name "The Crusader") He did a lot of nice stuff for the clergy -- but it doesn't mention his people. ^^ The quote below is taken directly from Encyclopedia Britanica:
|
"An illegitimate son of the Norwegian king Magnus III Barefoot, Sigurd succeeded to the throne with his elder and younger brothers, Eystein and Olaf...... Olaf died in 1115 while still a youth and never actually ruled, leaving Sigurd and Eystein to reign jointly until Eystein's death in 1122, the longest joint rule in Norwegian history...... as sole ruler after Eystein's death Sigurd built several cathedrals...... he also established a bishopric, greatly contributing to the city's growth. In his later years he became mentally unbalanced."

This makes me wonder...... Before Clio Saga changed her page she had several pics of a "future" Sigurd, and in her comments she mentioned a "future Xenogears world". More of that quote may be accurate then we think -- but all we can do is wait and see. ^_^ Hopefully the part about being mentally unbalanced won't be true!
