Shitan Uzuki, commonly known as "Shitan-sensei" by the villagers of Lahan ("Doc" in the American version), lives at the top of a mountain looming over that same village. He's the local doctor and instructor, and he lives with his beautiful wife and daughter in a huge complex that is often dotted with his various "projects". He arrived in town about the same time as Fei -- 3 years ago -- and his origins are almost as mysterious as the younger man's. Over the past three years he has become Fei's closest friend and advisor, but he is obviously keeping secrets from him -- he seems to know about Fei's fog-shrouded past, but he never says a word. When he joins Fei on his quest, Shitan has a lot of mysterious connections. He constantly has strange dreams involving a mysterious figure (later revealed to be the Emperor of Solaris) in which he 'reports' Fei's activities, and these dreams often preceed major events in Fei's life/quest. Once the two meet up with Bart and Sigurd, however, a little more of his complicated past is discovered. Shitan is the former Water Element, a graduate of Solaris' training school 'Jugend'. He was part of a group that consisted of Ramsus, Sigurd, Jesse (whom he calls Jessiah), and himself. As one of the 'low born', or Third Class citizens, he was an avid follower of Ramsus' ideals, aligning himself with the man and supporting his cause. But once he realized that Ramsus did not intend to truly champion the Lambs, he left Solaris for the surface*. According to his story, he and Sigurd were smugglers, moving from Solaris territory to the surface via special Gates that allowed them to conduct their business unnoticed. Three years ago, he settled into the village of Lahan, as said above. Well, shady history or not, Shitan is one of the best (no, the best!! ^_~) members of the party. After the rest of his history is revealed in Solaris he begins fighting with his katana again, and that weapon easily makes him the strongest party member, more than twice as strong as Fei both on foot and in the gears. This only changes when Fei gets Xenogears, and even then they're a pretty close match in power. (*All other information on Shitan is in the "Spoilers!" section. ) (Everything beyond this point is speculation or my opinion) Well well...... Need I even say Shitan is my favorite? ^_^ I don't have any gripes with this character -- his deathblows are all strong and relatively easy to get, his ether spells are extremely useful (especially earlier in the game), and he's a man with a mysterious past. My team always consisted of Fei, Shitan, and Elly, unless I was forced to take on different party members. Because of that, I was able to take the time to build up and earn every one of his deathblows and spells...... Ougi and Jinrai were the most useful in the first half of the game, but once he gets his sword... well, lets just say it doesn't matter which skill you use, because they all cause well over 1,000HP of damage. ^_~ But if you take the time to get all of them, then use the Elemental skills! (Festive Wind - which takes the longest, Rumble Earth, Haze of Fire, and Crystal Water.) They're all beautiful to watch, and they're also his strongest attacks. The story is pretty much the same in his gear. His Infinite Attack Level deathblows are gear-versions of his elemental attacks (except one, which I think is the second Level Three skill...), and they all cause 9999 HP of damage. And if you equip him with an Omega engine and a GNRS50 or two.......
