The Eldrige
No matter where you start, all events in Xenogears can be traced back to one place - the Eldrige. | The Eldridge was an inter-planetary transport from a forgotten system, occupied by the creators of the weapon called Deus. It was also a colony ship, (possibly)carrying what was left of humanity away from its homeworld. At the beginning of the FMV introduction, an entire city is revealed to be within the ship (although I don't know why they would transport a city full of people on the same ship with Deus). However, during their voyage, Deus somehow broke loose of whatever they used to contain it, harnessed the power of the ship's fuel source -- Zohar -- and attempted to take over. To prevent this, the captain of the Eldridge destroys the ship and sends it plunging down to the surface of the planet that eventually becomes the main staging ground for "episode five" -- the story of Fei and Elly. (Before he activated the self destruct mechanism, he revealed a locket, with a picture of his wife and daughter inside. His daughter looks peculiarly like Elly..... ^_~) At this point, the woman known as Miang is born -- or spawned, depending on how you feel about the character -- on a beach along with the wreakage of the Eldrige, at Dawn. At this time, Abel(Fei), as the only survivor of the crash, makes contact with Zohar, and in an effort to help the child, Zohar creates a being associated with his utmost desire -- a wish for his mother. Elly is created within Zohar -- or so one of the many theories goes. For more ideas, go here.
Cain and the Gazel, Abel and Elly |
After the crash of the Eldrige, Miang gave birth to thirteen individuals -- Cain, future Emperor of Solaris, and the twelve members of the Gazel Ministry. (All of the superstition surrounding the number thirteen seems to have been realized in this case, wouldn't you say? ^_~) As the first humans, they together gave birth to the rest of the human race and eventually determined that they had the right to rule over humanity. Now, assuming Elly and Abel entered the fray at this time, grown up and ready to contribute to the population, they would have been the source of what the Gazel say polluted humanity. Understandably, they pursued the two, and most likely tried to get rid of them. (Remember that flashback featuring Abel and Elly, chased by Cain and the Ministers?) |
Side note: If this was the case, I believe only Elly would have been considered 'inferior', or the cause of what the Gazel thought corrupted humans. Abel was the only survivor of the original human race, therefore he would have been considered pure. Miang generally disappears at this point. From here on, most of the information given in the game focuses on the Contact and the Anti-type (Gee, I wonder how they got those names?), and their respective lives and hardships. All that is revealed is that, somehow, she and Elly are one and the same. Miang split somehow, into the Guardian and the Mother, and while the Guardian's code is ingrained in the DNA of every woman born on the earth, the Mother is reborn throughout the generations, as Elly.
(Everything below is speculation or my opinion, or whatever is stated.)
Anyway, Abel was important to them. They've spent their entire lives pursuing the Contact, and I don't think they would just kill him, even then when they probably had no idea of the Mother's task to revive Deus. He was the only survivor of the Eldrige, and more importantly he had contacted the Wave Existence successfully and recieved its protection. Perhaps Miang also used him to... err...... "proliferate"..... after Elly was gone. (I think I'm going to stop this line right here...)
