Krelian is one of the few survivors of the Nisan-Solaris war that took place 500 years ago. He was formerly the commander of Nisan's gear forces, but when he wasn't fighting the war, he was studying nanotechnology and genetics under one of the Shevat sages (known as "Taura" in the game). This was, I think, the result of Sophia's advice -- apparently Krelian was a loose cannon in his younger days, and she recommended that he read to calm his nerves. Although the game never says it straight out, it becomes fairly obvious that Krelian had feelings for Sophia. (It's harder to tell during the normal course of the game, but in the flashbacks, it's really obvious if you watch how he reacts to things.) When she died, he completely lost his faith, and ended up joining Solaris just before the Diabolos Invasion began. His connections to Grahf and Miang probably date back to this era. I don't know where he started out, but by the time Fei reaches Solaris, it's a pretty well known fact that he is the true ruler of the country. There isn't much else to say that will not spoil the game outright, but Krelian becomes a key player in the plot of Xenogears after the group reaches Solaris. (Everything below is either speculation or my opinion) Krelian is another one of those "deep" characters. ^_~ Believe it or not, almost all of my information on him is from the Japanese pages I've managed to translate, or a few friends that I spoke with (their names are on the Credits page). Even after he becomes a main character though, they just dont'say much about him. If he hadn't had the Ministry's goals on his mind, I think he would have been one of those kind, caring people. Pain just ruined him, like it does most people. ^^ He is also Animus...... would anybody happen to know why he wasn't one of the people the Ministry was after? There are only so many of these "perfect" people in the world. Oh well. In the game, he's a jerk. I think that's why I like him...... and why most others like him. ^_~ It's always the good looking ones that turn out to be villains, you know......?
