Well, at the risk of repeating myself again...... (And I apologize if this doesn't flow very well, but I'm not a text book editor, and I doubt you would want to read something like that anyway! ^_~)
Abel and Elly were the first incarnations of Fei and Elly on earth. Abel was a small child, the only survivor of the Eldrige crash, and Elly was both a manifestation of Abel's desire for a mother, and a part of the being called 'Miang'. As the first humans on earth (along with Cain and the Gazel, I suppose), I wouldn't think there would be much conflict in their lives until they clash with Miang's creations. ^^ In any case......
Abel was the first -- and probably the only -- person to make contact with the Wave Existence, the entity imprisoned in the Zohar Modifier. This is probably where the term Contact originated, wouldn't you think? I assume the Zohar modifyed him somehow, so that the memories of his soul would be passed on through the generations...... or perhaps the Zohar already has control of that sort of thing. But either way, Abel was the one chosen by the Wave Existence to complete the cycle that began on the planet with Deus, and set everyone free. He, and all of his other incarnations, have the power to defeat Deus and free the Existence from its prison in Zohar. Now, apparently some incarnations have more power than others (ie: Lacan didn't display any power until he contacted Zohar and became Grahf, but Fei was born with an amazing ether potential that manifested itself in Id), but all have the infinite potential locked away with their old memories.
Elhaym was the being created by Zohar during it's crash to earth. When the Existence made its effort to protect Abel during the crash, it sensed the child's fear and searched for a way to comfort him -- it used Abel's desire for his mother to create "The Mother", or Elly. (During one of Fei's flashbacks Elly appears to also be a child at this particular time. How that translates to his desire for a mother is beyond me, but......) Again, I'm not sure how she can be a creation of the Zohar and a part of Miang, but I suppose if and when Miang split, the action does not have to be taken literally. ^^ But because they are one and the same, both women possess the Urobolus factor -- Anyone born from Miang or Elly would be locked into the cycle by virtue of that wonderful little code. It has something to do with the 'blank spaces', or 'missing spaces', in DNA, as Krelian mentioned...... anyway, the factor is confined solely to women. But while Elly is reborn as one of these women at certain intervals, possessing the "Urobolus Ring", Miang simply seizes a woman through the factor, and becomes that person.
Elly's hidden power is more passive than Fei's, or Miang's. Miang never loses her memory of it, or how to use it, but in Elly it is just a hidden part of herself that very probably doesn't come to light very often. She knows it's there -- her uneasiness around her omnigear is a manifestation of that knowledge -- and she is always afraid of the power, and what she might do with it. Also...... I think Elly is actually more a part of Deus than Zohar (they said as much in the game, I know... ^^), so I don't think she has any connecting factors with the Wave Existence, other than her initial creation. I think this is part of the origin of the term "Anti-type" that the Ministry sometimes uses to refer to her, but I'm feeling dense at the moment, so I'll admit that I'm not sure how she got the name other than my little explanation in the "Beginnings" section.
Like I mentioned above, Abel and Elly started the entire cycle -- with help from a few supporting characters. Thirteen, to be exact. ^^ And, I'm not going to get much into the human-race thing -- we all know how we multiply, don't we? So I'll get to the point instead.
Original incarnations: Eventually, Cain and the Ministry found Abel and Elly. I imagine the continued existence of the two would have been rather inconvenient for Miang's 'children', so they set off to kill them. Needless to say, they succeeded -- Elly died saving Abel, and Cain probably killed Abel soon after that, if he died at all at that point. (Remember the significance of Cain and Abel from the Bible? I thought you might.) This point set the stage for every incarnation of Abel and Elly - she would always sacrifice herself for him, and he would die somehow soon afterwords. (Keep in mind that 'dying' is not necessarily death of the body.) Interestingly enough, although Elly's death was shown several times, they never once showed Fei's death.
Zeboim incarnations: The next incarnation of the two is shown to be during the Zeboim Era, four thousand years before the game. Now they're known as Kim and Elly Kasim (It's lucky they managed to get married in this one!), and aside from the clothing they look exactly as they did in their original lives. (The game didn't mention any incarnations between this one and the first ones...... I assume that they were there, but just not significant enough to show us.) After Kim completed Emerauda, Elly died trying to protect them from government troops after their 'daughter', and after Emerauda was sealed away...... again, his death isn't shown, but it doesn't seem like he would be allowed to live after that -- or would want to. Elly's death always causes him excrutiating pain, after all.
Nisan incarnations: This seems to be one of the points in history they had the most impact on the world. As Sophia, Elly led the people of the surface in the first war of independence against Solaris. She did this through the Nisan Church, as founder and Mother of the order, and during her lifetime she was revered as a saint, and countless people flocked to hear her speak and follow her into war. Lacan was an artist and childhood friend of Elly. They were close, as they always are, but her position steadily pushed them farther away from each other -- both of them refused to acknowledge what was almost literally in their blood...... until the very end, their love for each other was kept hidden.
Near the end of the war Nisan was betrayed by Shevat and ambushed. In order to save her people Sophia sacrificed her own life to end the battle. Lacan was devastated...... he ran off seeking the hidden "power" to some how make up for her death, and eventually found and contacted the Zohar Modifier. His second attempt at contacting it, however, ended up splitting his soul somehow (I'm still not clear on what exactly happened with that). He lived on with the desire to destroy, eventually bringing the Diabolos Invasion to the world in an attempt to eradicate it and end the cycle he and Elly were trapped in. When that didn't work, he took to doing what Miang does -- absorbing other souls and living in different bodies to extend his life. He was taking Sophia's last words literally. "Lacan...... Live!"
This incarnation is unique because although Elly died, Lacan did not. He's still up and running, causing trouble and attempting to destroy the world. But Fei was still born again...... so it is just the memories that are passed on between lives, and not the actual souls...... Or the split was literal, and Lacan's soul was born again, while Grahf's lived on as a different entity composed of desires and that sort of thing. They're both Lacan, that much is for sure. ^_~
Current incarnations: Again, this set of lives seems to be pretty unique. ^^ Elly was born in Solaris of all places, completely separated from her other half. Fei was born in Shevat -- Solaris's blood enemy. But while Elly led a rather normal life until the incident at Jugend, Fei was completely misrable. For the first time, the Contact has a dark, destructive side, very similar to Grahf's personality. His childhood was so harsh and unbearable that Fei was forced to separate himself from it, and the persona Id became dominant under Grahf's influence and the torture he was forced to endure at Miang's hands. (for the complete explanation, see Fei's spoiler profile.)
Fei's alter-ego showed up every once in awhile, usually when his mental energy was low. Elly, on the other hand, did not show any of her latent potential other than her uncontrollable reaction to the Drive. But eventually, the time came when Fei was unable to save himself, and Elly was forced to sacrifice herself to save his life. She didn't die...... (see Elly's spoiler profile for a more complete account.) but instead resumed her true form, or as Krelian said, became 'True Miang'.
Fei eventually managed to get himself together and go after her. He fought and defeated Deus, but when the shell began to overload, Elly put herself at risk again and began to move it away from the planet to save Fei and what was left of humanity. This time, Fei went after her, and saved her before she could sacrifice her life. So the cycle was ended...... finally.
Notes......
(Don't worry, there isn't much more!) This entire account is based on my recollection of the game. Heh - it could all be wrong as well, because I have no idea what Square actually had in mind while writing this story! But this is how I saw things in the game, and it's my opinion on how things happened. It took forever to write though, so if you don't agree with me, just send a text file with your explanation on it, and I'll add it to the list as a link right above this set of notes. You'll be given full credit for your ideas, assuming you give me all the information.
Well, I hope I didn't repeat myself very often...... I really did make an effort not to do that, but the events in this game are so interlaced with each other......
